The project proposes a continuous, soft movement path that prioritizes pedestrian traffic and cyclist from Sahat al Shohada (Martyr Square) at the edge of historic Beirut, to the Pine Forest southwards. Sidewalks are widened, planted and equipped with benches and where possible play equipment to serve as green promenades and meeting places for adjoining communities. The landscape master plan, Phase I, undertakes a comprehensive survey of open/green landscapes on both sides of the Damascus Street, cemeteries, USJ campus, hippodrome, to evaluate their condition and their potential for the project.
